ECALYPTUS GLOBULUS and Radiata – Giving New Breath for Life

Airy and light, refreshing outside, warming inside, a mighty oxygenizer drying out dampness and cold, Eucalyptus means freedom, vitality, and space beyond boundaries. Its energy is rhythmic like “moving winds on the top of mighty trees”, and conveys a potential to spread, to create, to nourish, to absorb, to enjoy.

Eucalyptus’ colour is green, bluish green and white, etheric and yet rooted, rising high and whispering to the vibratory breeze of the stars, yet simultaneously drinking in full draughts the waters of creation. The word “eucalyptus” stems from Greek language ?????????? and means “well covered”. The flower bud has a special capsule-like shape and protects the reproductive organs during their development opening itself up later under the pressure of the emerging stamens.

More than seven hundred species of Eucalyptus exist today in the world, most of them native to Australia. They can grow as a low shrub or as a huge tree up to over 60 m in height. Most of them are growing quite fast with more than 50 % of even the tall trees established in the first 10-15 years of their growth. Eucalyptus is one of the first botanical groups which was globally cultivated since several centuries.

Medicine per se

With its numerous species and sub-species (and chemotypes of essential oils) Eucalyptus is also the sole genus which one can find in so many different varieties in form of plant medicine throughout the world. The “globulus” specy has particularly found its habitat on all continents. Eucalyptol or 1,8 -cineole, as the scientists call it, is one of the major bio-chemical compounds of the globulus and radiata specy. In natural synergy with its many other compounds it has remarkable therapeutic effects specifically on the respiratory tract and with this on the cardiac system as well – since free breathing means free feeling, free heart-beat, good heart rythm. If we look at the translation of cineol it means nothing else than “moving the wind” (kine + aeol). No wonder that ailments of our “wind” organs, the lungs, and their connection with the elements of “cold and damp” respond all well to treatments with Eucalyptus oils. This means: pulmonary problems, flu, bronchitis, coughs, catarrh, asthma, but also rheumatism, rheumatoid arthritis and muscular pains etc. react well to treatments with Eucalpytus oils. And not to forget derangements of the uro-genital tract like cystitis and leucorrhea which are treated with this easily affordable, powerful oil.

1,8-cineol is bio-chemically spoken an oxide which again has its link with the air element (oxygene).

“It has natural expectorant, mucolytic, and bactericidal effects in the respiratory organs (lungs and sinuses) and also inhibits certain neuro-transmitters that are responsible for narrowing the bronchi. In asthmatics, lung function can be improved under medical supervision by administering pure 1,8 cineol……. Cineol also improves breathlessness at rest and in the morning, as well as indicators of quality of life.”

As a natural oxygene supplier to the system Eucalyptus globulus and radiata oils are also regenerative to the skin cells and enhance their respiratory metabolism, making them good wound healers, especially in case of blisters and burns; but they are also reliable allies against impurities like bacterial dermatitis, skin candida and skin infections. Their toning energizing nature can be of excellent help to treat headaches and neuralgic pains. Good to note also: Eucalyptus oil has insect repellent properties and is used commercially in mosquito repellent products in many countries.

A vital plant genus

The free breath which Eucalyptus inspires is well documented through ages of folk medicine. Eucalyptus trees are the symbol of freedom and expansion also of human emotions, of the soul’s unrestricted energies liberating them in the flow of ceaseless intentions and creations. And the heart rejoices in this dynamics of the Eucalyptus stimulated by their desire to stretch out, to absorb the surrounding space, transforming it into beautiful aromas and drink the water from the soil. Yes, thirsty they are these trees. But it is not true that Eucalyptus dries out the water table under their roots. It is clearly a myth that Eucalyptus species damages the sub-soil moisture of the land where they grow. But they all love and need the sun for their well-being – and for the high amounts of essential oils they produce in the tiny little glands on the leaves, some of them one can see with naked eyes. As in other species of the family of the Myrtaceae, Eucalyptus produces copious amounts of essential oils – a special character of this genus.

A few testimonials

“Just wanted to let you know…years ago while browsing „Garland of Letters“ in Philadelphia, PA I smelled Oshadhi Eucalyptus radiata and its spirit came out and the most Devine energy engulfed me with unimaginable warmth and love. At the time I only knew about E. globus. I rarely use this EO, because E. Radiata has taught me more and is very gentle. I will never forget the encounter or experience. I still can recall it to this day. I purchased it and brought it home. I was in love with it. I purchased Oshadhi essential oils, but the brand was hard to get here. So I am so happy to have the opportunity to reconnect with my lost love Oshadhi.”

SHANTI – Through Jonathan Hinde, UK-distributor of OSHADHI

“I used the Eucalyptus Oil for my allergies by inhaling for only three days. The results were remarkable. Not only did it stop my allergy problem, my sense of smell has returned after 32 years. I can walk in the yard now and actually smell the different flowers and plants. I can smell the different crops and pesticides. It is amazing.” ~Maria

“This oil promotes sleep, good humor, it helps you fight against the gloomy environment, it stimulates your immune defenses … So it’s all good! My tip: I have the bottle in my handbag and I put it on a handkerchief … especially if I cross an odorous area in a store … You have, those who wander and have forgotten their deodorant … even to wash!”

A few comments with regards to the Corona virus infection

“Due to the general epidemiological, structural and clinical similarities, it can be assumed that virucidal essential oils have favorable properties with regards to the prevention and infection with Covid-19”

“The investigations by Blanchard and Gelmini et al. confirm that essential oils can fundamentally significantly reduce the bacterial load in the room air, which for example leads to a reduction in nosocomial infections in hospitals. Li et al. demonstrated in a mouse model that the joint intranasal application of influenza vaccine and 1,8-cineol, a component of numerous essential oils, significantly increases the immune response and thus the virus control at the cellular and humoral level. Brochot et al. using the microdilution method showed that an essential oil mixture of Cinnamon, Carrot, Eucalyptus and Rosemary is active against influenza viruses and against pathogens of post-influenza pneumonia.”

Prof. em. Dr. Jürgen Reichling, expert in virus research and research for essential oils, University of Heidelberg/ Germany, comments on the topic “Covid-19 and essential oils” as follows:

“The Covid-19 is an RNA virus with a lipophilic envelope with interspersed proteins. So far, all enveloped viruses have been successfully combated with essential oils in vitro. So I assume that this should also be the case with the corona virus. There is no empirical data available. However, (this is the case) only if the virus is outside the eukaryotic cells. The virus envelope then is destroyed so that it can no longer penetrate the cell. But once the virus is in the cell, it is beyond the control of essential oils. I think essential oils would be suitable for external disinfection. Perhaps inhalation to prevent the spread of the virus in the naso-pharynx would be promising. This is because the virus particles have to leave the cells to spread and enter the intercellular space – here they could be caught by the essential oil.”

“COVID-19, a member of corona virus family is spreading its tentacles across the world due to lack of drugs at present. Associated with its infection are cough, fever and respiratory problems causes more than 15% mortality worldwide. It is caused by a positive, single stranded RNA virus from the enveloped coronaviruse family. However, the main viral proteinase (Mpro/3CLpro) has recently been regarded as a suitable target for drug design against SARS infection due to its vital role in polyproteins processing necessary for coronavirus reproduction. Objectives: The present in silico study was designed to evaluate the effect of Eucalyptol (1,8 cineole), an essential oil component from eucalyptus oil, on Mpro by docking study. Methods: In the present study, molecular docking studies were conducted by using 1-click dock and Swiss dock tools. Protein interaction mode was calculated by Protein Interactions Calculator. Results: The calculated parameters such as RMSD, binding energy, and binding site similarity indicated effective binding of eucalyptol to COVID-19 proteinase. Active site prediction further validated the role of active site residues in ligand binding. PIC results indicated that, Mpro/eucalyptol complexes forms hydrophobic interactions, hydrogen bond interactions and strong ionic interactions. Conclusions: Therefore, eucalyptol may represent potential treatment potential to act as COVID-19 Mpro inhibitor. However, further research is necessary to investigate their potential medicinal use.”

Conclusion

Eucalyptus is one of the innumerable blessings of Mother Nature and its fragrant “magical mysteries”. Apparently the Eucalyptus genus started to inhabit our planet Earth between 35 and 50 million years ago after Australia and New Guinea separated from the famous ancient continent of Gondwana. Eucalyptus is a genus – as we have seen – of the Myrtaceae family. And all the Tea Trees, the Lepto-spermuns, and of course the Niaoulis, Cajeputs, and Myrtles with their essential oils, full of 1,8-cineol, belong to the same family. Eucalyptus is by far the most expanded genus of this amazing botanical family full of aromatic surprises. Eucalyptus in its innate vitality regenerates quickly after large fires, it even takes advantage of the enrichment of the soil through wood fires. When the first humans appeared in this region about 50 thousand years ago and bush and wood fires became much more frequent the fire-loving Eucalyptus trees were quickly populating more or less of 70% of the Australian forests. And from here (a little bit later 🙂 ) it started its journey around the globe. Air and Water lovers with a taste for heat and sun, these amazing species have become today the friends and lovers of millions of humans all over the world. Movement of “Prana” on the wings and winds of the soul!
